CoagClinic™ Offers Effective Tool to Meet New Joint Commission 3E Requirement for Anticoagulation Therapy Management
Disease Management Software Implements Comprehensive Guidelines While Improving Patient Safety and Lowering Costs

WESTPORT, CT -- (Business Wire) –-
February 28, 2008

Standing Stone, Inc., a leader in disease state management solutions, announces that its CoagClinic™ software application is helping hospitals, clinics and other healthcare facilities meet the expansive new Joint Commission 3E Requirement for inpatient and outpatient anticoagulation therapy management which became effective January 1st.

CoagClinic™ gives users a significant head start on meeting the 2008 Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goal 3E issued in July 2007. Since 3E is broad and far-reaching, the Joint Commission has allowed hospitals and other ambulatory care facilities to phase in the requirement with defined milestones for planning, implementation and pilot programs. Full 3E implementation is required by January 1, 2009.

“Since Requirement 3E applies to both outpatient and inpatient environments, compliance will require cooperation across many hospital departments - challenging for any organization,” said Mark W. Wurster, MD FACP and Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at Ohio State University. He concluded, “At OSU we have already determined that an electronic clinical decision support system will be necessary to meet NPSG 3E within the stated timeframe. CoagClinic™ will be the centerpiece of our implementation efforts.” The full-featured software combines integration of point-of-service testing with computerized decision support and seamless data transfer via HL7 to and from existing hospital systems.

CoagClinic™ significantly lowers anticoagulation therapy costs and increases efficiency for busy hospitals and clinics. According to a clinical study, overhead expense can fall by up to 75%. Better compliance rates can reduce total costs for therapy-related complications by up to $1,600 per patient annually. Faster turnaround time increases patient satisfaction while allowing clinics to manage more patients. Facilities may be reimbursed for additional patient visits, generating new revenue. Programs can also be expanded to encompass all anticoagulation management throughout the hospital system.

"We are pleased that the Joint Commission has addressed this important patient safety issue" said Albert J. Bartosic, President of Standing Stone. He continued, "Several of our customers have reported to us that they have had their clinical operations reviewed by their internal compliance staff and have passed their 3E requirements with flying colors."
