Standing Stone’s CoagClinic™ Improves Patient Safety and Reduces Costs for Anticoagulation Therapy Management: Disease Management Software Helps to Reduce Adverse Events by 89%

Standing Stone, Inc., a leader in disease state management solutions, announces that its CoagClinic™ software application can help hospitals, clinics and other healthcare facilities significantly improve patient safety in anticoagulation management. The software will also help these institutions meet stringent new Joint Commission 3E requirements for inpatient and outpatient anticoagulation therapy management, effective January 1, 2008.


An impact study by Dr. Mark Wurster, Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at Ohio State University, concluded that anticoagulation therapy management systems which combine Point of Service (POS) testing with Computerized Decision Support (CDS), such as CoagClinic™, benefited both patients and care facilities as follows:


  • Reduced adverse events by 89% due to improved patient follow up and care
  • Increased International Normalized Ratio (INR) compliance to 62% vs. 38% compliance with traditional monitoring
  • Reduced total costs of therapy-related complications from $336,000 with traditional monitoring to $260 with POS/CDS systems

  • CoagClinic™ offers a web-based, customizable approach to the management and documentation of anticoagulation therapy. Key benefits include tracking use of approved protocols and potential for drug interactions, patient-specific support for warfarin and low molecular weight heparin dosing and documenting patient and caregiver education for follow up monitoring, compliance tracking, nutritional counseling and drug-drug interactions (DDI’s).
