New for 2008, The Joint Commission has released National Patient Safety Goal Requirement 3E: Reduce the Likelihood of patient harm associated with the use of anticoagulation therapy. Based on medication error data compiled by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), warfarin has been identified as 1 of the 10 drugs most commonly involved in medication errors in hospitals.

Missouri PRO Article Shows Office-Based Comprehensive Anticoagulation Program Can Pay-Off

A published article in the Missouri PRO HCQIP Newsletter (Volume 9, Number 3, July 2001), shows that a primary care environment, using CoagClinic and a point of care testing device, was able to significantly increase patient compliance rates for INR's as well as improve the financial situation of their clinic. The hospital system saved $2,700 per patient enrolled in the anticoagulation management program as well as improved therapeutic time in range by 97%. The system generated $25 for each $1 spent on on implementation and maintenance.

CoagClinic Study Published in CHEST.

A clinical study using CoagClinic was published in CHEST, the journal of the American College of Chest Physicians. The study results showed that through the use of CoagClinic in conjunction with a Point of Care testing device, INR compliance rates were significantly improved (48% to 71%) while operational and complication costs were significantly decreased.  Please contact Standing Stone for a copy of the abstract.
